Florida school kids are getting "Xtreme" when it comes to after-school snacks. The Florida department of agriculture and consumer services has launched an "Xtreme Cuisine Cooking School" to educate youngsters on the benefits of eating healthily.
The pilot project is designed to teach students how to make their own healthy snacks using fresh Florida fruits and vegetables.
Charles H Bronson, the state's agriculture commissioner, (not the hardman actor) said: "Many children often prepare their own after-school snacks when they come home each afternoon. We want to help them change their snacking habits. Instead of automatically reaching for junk food, we want them to explore healthy alternatives by using fresh Florida fruit and vegetables as ingredients for fun and delicious snacks".
Recipes imparted to the youngsters included the likes of fruit parfait and strawberry, passionfruit and banana smoothies.
Bushel Box remains somewhat confused however, about what makes a grapefruit "xtreme" - answers on a postcard please.
